This museum documents East German refugee history with an exhibition at an authentic site: for many people fleeing East Germany, the West Berlin refugee camp Marienfelde was the first stop. By 1990, the center had taken in 1.35 million people. The exhibition focuses on the refugees and their reasons for leaving the GDR, the stations inside the refugee center, the refugees’ new start in the West, and other aspects related to migration and resettlement.

The museum is part of the historical sites that belong to the Berlin Wall Foundation.
