Accessibility Declaration

Scope of application: This declaration on accessibility applies to the website of the Berlin Wall Foundation (www.stiftung-berliner-mauer.de).

Accessibility efforts: The Berlin Wall Foundation endeavors to make its website accessible. This declaration on digital accessibility is made in accordance with the Berlin Act on Accessible Information and Communication Technology (BIKTG Bln). The technical requirements for accessibility are set out in the current Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV).

Status: This declaration was created or revised on 26/08/2024.

Review of accessibility: The review of digital accessibility was carried out by the State Commissioner for Digital Accessibility.  The statements in this declaration on accessibility were last reviewed on 26/08/2024.

How accessible is the website? This website is partially accessible. It only partially fulfils the requirements of the current BITV.

Which areas are not accessible?

Social media links: 

• Description: Links to social media are only provided with title attributes.
• Actions: Add 'aria-label' attributes

Alt texts for logos: 

• Description: Sponsor logos have generic alt texts.
• Actions: Specify alternative texts

Forms and input fields: 

• Description: Input fields are not sufficiently labeled (only text preallocation).
• Measures: Addition of labels and placeholders

Contrast error: 

• Description: Some text elements and control elements do not meet the required contrast ratios.
• Measures: Adjustment of contrasts in accordance with BITV requirements

• Description: Essential content and functions are not accessible without a mouse.
• Measures: Improvement of keyboard operability

Automatically updating elements: 

• Description: Slider carousel cannot be stopped or adjusted in refresh frequency.
• Actions: Insert stop and pause functions

Document title: 

• Description: Document titles do not contain the required elements.
• Measures: Adaptation of the document titles
• Schedule: Correction by the end of 2024

Focus order: • Description: Focus order is partly not meaningful or incorrect.
• Measures: Revision of the focus sequence
• Schedule: Correction by the end of 2025

Non-text contrast: 

• Description: Frames of form fields with incorrect input are low-contrast.
• Measures: Adjustment of the contrasts
• Schedule: Correction by the end of 2024

Pointer gestures:

• Description: Slider gestures are difficult to reach with a finger on the smartphone.
• Measures: Improve usability for mobile devices
• Schedule: Correction by the end of 2025

Clickable control elements: 

• Description: Some control elements do not meet the minimum size of 44 x 44 pixels.
• Measures: Adaptation of the control elements

Labels and instructions: 

• Description: Input fields for the newsletter are only provided with text preallocation.

Screen reader compatibility: 

• Description: Error messages are not read out by the screen reader.
