Opening Hours

Berlin Wall Memorial

  • Exhibition on the outdoor grounds: 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. (power will be switched off after 10 p.m.)
  • Documentation Center: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (last ascend to the observation tower 5:45 p.m.)
  • Visitor Center: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • The exhibition at S-Bahnhof Nordbahnhof “Border and Ghost Stations in Divided Berlin” can be visited during the opening hours of the S-Bahn station.

Marienfelde Refugee Center Museum

Tuesday to Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, 11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

East Side Gallery

The visitor information at the East Side Gallery is located at Mühlenstraße 73, 10243 Berlin. It is the meeting point for all guided tours. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Checkpoint Charlie

The foundation is developing a concept for an educational and memorial site at Checkpoint Charlie.

Most of the outdoor exhibitions are barrier-free. Parking for people with disabilities is available at most sites. The permanent exhibitions and seminar rooms at the Berlin Wall Memorial and the Marienfelde Refugee Center are barrier-free. The Günter Litfin Memorial is not barrier-free.

Where did the Wall stand?

From August 13, 1961 to November 9, 1989, the Berlin Wall enclosed West Berlin across 155 km and cut through the middle of the city center. Find more information here.

Which sites belong to the Berlin Wall Foundation?

Six historical sites belong to the Berlin Wall Foundation: The Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse is the central memorial dedicated to German division; the Marienfelde Refugee Center Museum on flight and immigration from the GDR; the Günter Litfin Memorial honors Günter Litfin, the East Side Gallery and Parliament of Trees.  The foundation is currently developing a concept for an educational site and memorial at Checkpoint Charlie.

Are the historical sites barrier-free?

Are there special programs for kids and families?

The sites of the Berlin Wall Foundation offer a wide range of exciting activities designed specifically for children and their families on the history of German division, the Berlin Wall and flight from the GDR. More information here.

How can I book a guided tour?

You can book guided tours online on our website. A varied program awaits you at our locations with bookable offers for groups and regular guided tours that you can take part in individually. Public tours

  • Eligible for a reduced fee upon presentation of appropriate documentation are: students, trainees, participants in the Federal Voluntary Service (Bundesfreiwilligendienst, recipients of citizen's income (Bürgergeld), social assistance, basic income support or benefits under the Asylum Seekers’ Benefits Act, holders of the certificate of eligibility (Berechtigungsnachweis)
  • Eligible for an exemption from payment upon presentation of appropriate documentation are: children and adolescents under the age of 18, school students, severely disabled persons, medically certified necessary accompanying persons of people with disabilities, members of the press and media

Group tours and workshops

  • Eligible for the reduced program fee are: university student groups, groups of participants in the Federal Voluntary Service (Bundesfreiwilligendienst), groups from non-formal youth work and trainees, groups from adult education and social work (e.g., integration courses, work with refugees, labor market integration programs), on a case-by-case basis, fee reductions may apply to reach new target groups or within the framework of cooperation agreements

Can I cancel a booking for a guided tour?

Group tours or workshops can be cancelled free of charge in writing up to five working days in advance. How can I support the Berlin Wall Foundation?

Do I need permission to film and take photographs at the historic sites?

In principle, all photo, film and audio recordings at all locations of the Berlin Wall Foundation must be registered and approved in advance. You can find more information here.

Does the foundation rent out space for events?
