“… and right behind the church, suddenly you couldn’t go any further!”

This was an experience shared by many people in the Kreuzberg borough and especially the congregation of the Protestant church St.-Thomas-Kirche in August 1961. The construction of the Berlin Wall divided not only the city – apparently for good – but also the congregation of this church, since a large part of its territory was in East Berlin in the Mitte borough.

Detlef Kämmer has set up an exhibition in the vestibule of the church on the construction and the fall of the Wall.
