Special Flight. Departure for a new life
What happens after a successful escape? For the many refugees from the GDR arriving in West Berlin, the Marienfelde Refugee Center Museum was only a first stop on their way to West Germany. They continued on to the Federal Republic by plane - but it often took years before they felt at home there.
In this workshop, we will get to know six young people who face the challenges of a new beginning after their flight in the 1950s. What are their hopes and expectations for life in the West? What are their experiences of loss and foreignness? What new opportunities do they have? The stories from the past allow a connection to the present: What are the prerequisites for a good arrival - then and now?
