„Sinkende Mauer“, Christophe Girot, 1997

Sinkende Mauer sculpture in an empty lot

In Invalidenpark, which was restored and partially redesigned between 1996 and 1998, the fountain installation “Sinkende Mauer” (Falling Wall), created by Christophe Girot, has stood since 1997: a walkable wall rises diagonally from a water basin, down which water flows in the summer. The monument is intended to commemorate both the Gnadenkirche, which was demolished in 1967, and the “disappearance” of the Berlin Wall.

Map of Memorial Sites

These include memorial sites, informational panels, exhibitions, and artworks. The map provides insight into historical events, personal stories, and the varying forms of expression within the culture of remembrance.
