Info Panel on the Sacrower Heilandskirche

With its freestanding campanile, the Church of Our Saviour is reminiscent of an early Christian basilica. Ludwig Persius built it between 1840 and 1844 based on sketches by Frederick William IV. In 1897, Adolf Slaby installed Germany’s first antenna system for wireless telegraphy on the bell tower. From 1952 onward, the church stood in the border zone of the GDR. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, it was restored. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990.

Note: The Heilandskirche in Sacrow is located on the opposite side of the river from the information board on Fährstraße in Potsdam.
