140 People – 140 Names at Brandenburg Gate

The Berlin Wall cut right through the heart of the city. It divided streets and neighbourhoods, families and friends. The violence at the border destroyed many lives. At least 140 people lost their lives at the Berlin Wall between 1961 and 1989. The biographies of those who died will be read out at the Berlin Wall Memorial and at the Brandenburg Gate to mark this year’s anniversary of the Wall’s construction. The series of events highlights the names and individual stories of those who died at the Berlin border fortifications and keeps their memory alive.

This event is part of the special program marking the 65th anniversary of the construction of the Berlin Wall.
