What's next for the East Side Gallery?
Hands-on activity
On September 28, the East Side Gallery will celebrate its 35th anniversary! Much has changed since 1990: the city and its people, the sections of the Wall, and the images. After 35 years of wind and weather, political and technological change, and restoration work on the sections of the Wall, the world's longest open-air gallery continues to evolve. But what does the future hold?
To mark the anniversary, the Berlin Wall Foundation is launching an initiative to preserve the monument. How can concrete and paint be preserved in the long term? How much of the original should be preserved, and would changes to the monument be possible in the interests of preservation? Can art in public spaces be everlasting?
How do you envision the future of the East Side Gallery? We invite you to join us in conversation and vote on how to proceed in our participatory program.
