Checkpoint Charlie: The Changing Values of a Cold War Heritage Icon

Together with the Department of Archaeology at the University of York, the Berlin Wall Foundation is offering a scholarship from the White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities for a dissertation on Checkpoint Charlie.

The research should focus on the internationally best-known historial site of the Berlin Wall and explore its myth. What values have been ascribed to it over the past 60 years? What role does the historical site play as a cultural heritage in understanding Berlin's significance during the Cold War, and how did this change? What attributions does it get now as a place of remembrance - from the people of Berlin, visitors from around the world, and political actors?
